Tips When Installing Wall Cabinets

Thinking of Performing Your Own Cabinet Installation?

Putting up new wall cabinets can be a great way to enhance the look and function of your home. Whether you are replacing your kitchen cabinets or installing new ones in your bathroom, there are a few steps you need to do when it comes to any cabinet installation. Following my tips will make it easier to position your cabinet or cabinets, in addition to making sure it is securely fastened to a supporting wall.

With your outline set in place, find the wall studs that will be used to install the support rail, which will balance the weight of the cabinets. This can be done using battery-operated stud finders, making this part of the installation quicker and easier. Use a pencil to mark the locations of the studs and decide where you want to drive in the screws that will secure the support rail and later the cabinet once it rests on the rail.

After you have installed the support rail, transfer the locations of the studs to the rear of your cabinet. Draw the sites where you wish to make the pilot holes for the screws in the backing of the cabinet. And make sure to drill those holes before you mount the cabinet on the support rail. And, remember to drill a shallow pilot hole on all the corresponding locations on the wall too. This makes it easier to line up the holes and thread the screws into the wall studs.

Always secure the cabinet with a screw that is near the middle of the space. Before threading any more screws into the studs, make sure to use a level to check that the cabinet is hanging correctly. Nothing will undermine a renovation like cabinets that are crooked on the wall.
